BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. The Afghanistan
Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) has invited 100 Turkmen
traders, industrialists and investors to visit the country as part
of an economic delegation and explore investment opportunities.
This was reflected in a press release issued by ACCI.
The invitation was extended by ACCI Deputy for Provincial
Affairs Faiz Ahmad Khawafi during a meeting with officials of the
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, Turkmen traders,
industrialists and investors.
“During the visit to Ashgabat, Mr. Khawafi attended an official
meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan,
where he met and addressed officials of the chamber, Turkmen
traders, industrialists, and investors,” ACCI said.
The Afghan side identified oil and gas, energy, industry,
mining, agriculture, transportation, railways, transit, logistics
and warehousing as key areas of cooperation between the private
sectors of the two countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Khawafi emphasized the
expansion of direct business-to-business contacts between companies
of the two countries, the exchange of trade delegations and the
practical follow-up of joint projects.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan share a long land border
and have developed economic ties around energy, transport and
cross-border trade. Turkmenistan's position on the Caspian Sea and
Afghanistan's access to South Asian markets give the two countries
complementary roles in regional connectivity.
Energy remains one of the main areas of bilateral economic
interaction, while transport infrastructure creates additional
opportunities for expanding trade. Turkmenistan has been developing
routes linking its territory with Afghanistan and further toward
South Asia, including through the
Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project
and related infrastructure.
Against this backdrop, greater involvement of Afghan and Turkmen
private businesses could help shift bilateral economic relations
toward longer-term commercial projects, including investment,
processing and logistics.
