Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda has been unanimously re-elected to a full five-year term at the helm of the institution, with his new term set to begin on November 24, 2026, the Manila Bulletin reported.
Kanda was first elected as the ADB's 11th president in November 2024 and took office in February 2025, completing the remainder of his predecessor Masatsugu Asakawa's term.
“ADB should be an anchor of stability in the region. But stability does not mean standing still. We must act swiftly and at the scale required by our members,” Kanda said.
In 2025, the ADB provided a record $44 billion in financial support, including more than $29 billion from its own resources and nearly $15 billion in co-financing.
Before joining the ADB, Kanda served as a special adviser to Japan's prime minister and finance minister. He had previously served as Japan's vice minister of finance for international affairs.
