US President Donald Trump personally asked Apple to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America” on its mapping service, according to US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.

“The president reached out to Apple directly, so I’m sure that we may be seeing that change coming up soon to Lake America,” Burgum said in an interview with Fox Business.

Google Maps had previously changed the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” for users in the United States.

On August 27, Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario, with the decision taking effect immediately. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney subsequently said the lake had borne its name for more than 400 years, long before the independence of the United States, and would retain it.
