UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for reforms to multilateral institutions, including the United Nations, to better reflect the changing global balance of power.
Speaking at the SCO+ summit in Bishkek, he noted that the world is becoming increasingly multipolar and that the balance of power is shifting, while international organisations continue to largely reflect the realities of 1945, Caliber.Az reports.
Guterres stressed that reforms must take current realities into account and expand the representation and influence of developing countries.
“Multipolarity is a condition for justice in global governance and international relations. Multipolarity is the best support for an effective multilateralism,” Guterres said.
He identified global security, reform of the international financial architecture, addressing the debt burden of developing countries, and the development of artificial intelligence as key areas. He also emphasised that AI should benefit all states.
