Azerbaijan is working with Armenia to expand mutual trade and create new overland transport links, President Ilham Aliyev said during his speech at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus format meeting.

“Azerbaijan is already supplying petroleum products to Armenia and providing transit for third-country cargo,” said President Ilham Aliyev in his speech at the SCO Plus format meeting, Caliber.Az reports via state media.

“We are working together with Armenia to increase the volume of mutual trade, expand the range of goods, and create new overland transport links,” the head of state added.

Aliyev also highlighted progress toward a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, noting that the two countries had initialled the text of the agreement more than a year ago.

“A little over a year ago, Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed the text of the peace agreement, putting an end to a 30-year conflict,” said President Aliyev.

The head of state noted that the South Caucasus region, which had previously been marked by a long-standing conflict, is now becoming a zone of peace.

During his address, Aliyev also highlighted the implementation of four UN Security Council resolutions adopted in 1993 concerning Azerbaijan.

Emphasising that four resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council in 1993 were implemented three years ago, 30 years later, the head of state noted: “However, unfortunately, the UN played no role in the implementation of these resolutions. Azerbaijan entirely restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity on its own. The development of appropriate mechanisms is required for the swift implementation of UN Security Council resolutions.”

Aliyev also stressed Azerbaijan’s continued commitment to multilateralism in international affairs.

“Having led the Non-Aligned Movement for four years until recently, Azerbaijan will continue to contribute to strengthening the principles of multilateralism in international affairs,” Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani president also spoke about bilateral relations with Kyrgyzstan, expressing satisfaction with his visit to the country.

“I am glad to visit once again brotherly Kyrgyzstan. A month ago, the Treaty on Allied Relations was signed during my state visit,” Aliyev underlined.

The president noted that this historic document has elevated Azerbaijani-Kyrgyz relations to the highest level.
