Unknown attackers fired improvised rockets containing explosives at the Turnow-Preilack substation near Germany’s Jänschwalde power plant, one of the country’s largest thermal power stations, in Brandenburg state, Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung (MAZ) reports, citing sources.
The newspaper said several improvised devices were found near the power plant and were neutralised by specialists.
The attackers are believed to have attempted to disable the substation and cut power to Unit E. However, the attempt failed, despite at least one rocket hitting the substation.
Power grid operator 50Hertz reported a brief interruption in electricity transmission, which did not affect consumers’ power supply.
Jänschwalde ranks fourth in terms of capacity among Germany’s operating thermal power plants, with the electricity it generates fed into the transmission grid through the Turnow-Preilack substation.
