Colonel Samvel Grigoryan has been appointed commander of Armenia’s 3rd Army Corps amid personnel issues within the Armenian Armed Forces, the Hraparak newspaper reports, citing sources.
According to the publication, Grigoryan’s appointment has prompted discussions within Armenia’s Ministry of Defence.
Hraparak writes that Grigoryan moved to Armenia in 2023 and joined the Defence Ministry, but remained in positions no higher than deputy director for more than three years. The newspaper speculated that his career progression may have been influenced by perceptions that he was not considered loyal to the current authorities.
Grigoryan was appointed commander of the 3rd Army Corps on August 31. The position had been vacant since early July. Before that, the corps was commanded by Major General Simon Nazaryan.
