The number of thefts from Armenian churches and chapels has more than doubled this year, with reported losses exceeding $40,000 over the past two years, according to Armenian media.

Armenia’s Interior Ministry said eight thefts were recorded in 2025, four of which were solved. During the first eight months of 2026, however, 17 thefts were reported at churches and chapels, with 12 cases solved.

The stolen items included a chalice, a cross, a donation box, a candlestick, a flower vase, a censer, a wine cup, additional candlesticks and cash.
