Germany will provide Ukraine with a new package of air defence equipment this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on September 2.
According to Zelenskyy, the commitment was discussed during a telephone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which also covered what he described as a “Russian attack on the airfield in Leipzig”.
“This is another Russian escalation, and it is important that Germany has responded,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Merz had informed him about measures taken by Germany.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to provide Germany with expertise and experience where needed.
He also added that teams were finalising the text of an agreement known as the Drone Deal.
"Further deliveries of German air defence systems are expected in the coming weeks," Zelenskyy said.
