Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk has accused Western countries of seeking to use Armenia as a “battering ram” against Russia.
Speaking to a Vesti journalist, Overchuk said Yerevan needed to decide whether it would remain allied with Russia or seek support from Western countries.
“If they believe that joining the EU will produce the same results, then, as they say, welcome — that is their right,” Overchuk said.
He added that Armenia could either remain in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as a Russian ally, in which case Moscow would support it, or pursue closer ties with the West.
Overchuk also said Armenia did not want to leave the EAEU and understood the consequences such a decision could have.
