BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5. Kazakhstan's
national gas company QazaqGaz and China's Sinopec discussed
prospects for cooperation in geological exploration and the
development of new oil and gas fields.
This was reflected in a press release published by QazaqGaz on
August 5.
"During the meeting, the parties discussed promising areas of
cooperation in geological exploration and the development of new
oil and gas blocks," the company said.
According to QazaqGaz, Chairman of the Management Board Alibek
Zhamauov met with Zhao Quanming, General Director of Sinopec
International Energy Investment Holdings in Kazakhstan.
The discussions also covered the exchange of expertise, advanced
technological solutions and industry practices in geological
exploration aimed at improving the efficiency of upstream
operations.
Sinopec additionally invited QazaqGaz representatives to
participate in the International CCUS Forum, which brings together
industry leaders, researchers and international experts to discuss
carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies and other
decarbonization initiatives.
Meanwhile, Energy cooperation has long been one of the pillars
of Kazakhstan-China economic relations. Sinopec entered the Kazakh
market more than two decades ago and has since participated in
upstream projects, oilfield services and refinery modernization,
while Chinese companies have become among the country's largest
investors in the energy sector.
In recent years, QazaqGaz has also intensified dialogue with
Chinese partners as Kazakhstan pursues its strategy of expanding
the national resource base, increasing commercial gas production
and attracting advanced exploration technologies. The two countries
have additionally broadened cooperation under the Belt and Road
Initiative, with energy infrastructure, industrial development and
technology transfer remaining among the key areas of bilateral
engagement.
