BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. The Asian
Development Bank (ADB) has launched a capital market development
project with the participation of Azerbaijan.
According to ADB information, the program covers 43 countries
and economies in the Asia-Pacific region, including Azerbaijan,
Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Türkiye,
Uzbekistan, and other countries.
The information noted that the project is financed by $225,000
from the Technical Assistance Special Fund.
According to the bank, the program aims to support the
development of capital markets in the participating countries.
According to ADB information, from 2015 through 2024, Azerbaijan
received $2.53 billion in sovereign financing for 10 projects. Of
this amount, 51% was allocated to regional cooperation and
integration projects—one of the highest shares among countries in
the relevant group. Another 39% accounted for private sector
development, 18% climate finance, and 10% digital technology
initiatives.
From 2015 through 2024, the bank approved nine non-sovereign
projects totaling $963.9 million, with 100% of the financing
directed toward private sector development. Meanwhile, 78% of the
commitments were related to regional cooperation and
integration—the highest among comparable upper-middle-income
countries reviewed by ADB.
According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, ADB's direct
investment in the country's economy amounted to $2.07 million in
the 1st quarter of this year. This figure is $455,000, or 28.1%,
higher than the same period last year.
