BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. The Central Bank
of Azerbaijan (CBA) has presented its monetary policy framework in
Singapore.

This was announced in a report released by the CBA following an
international meeting on "Assessing the monetary policy position in
the Asia and Pacific Region" held in Singapore on August 11-12,
2026, organized by the Asian Development Bank.

According to the report, Azerbaijan was represented at the event
by the Director of the CBA Monetary Policy Department, Azer
Alasgarov, and the Leading Economist of the Research Department,
Elmir Mukhtarov.

During the event, Alasgarov made a presentation on the topic
"Monetary policy framework in Azerbaijan" and briefed on the work
done in recent years to strengthen the interest rate channel in the
transmission of monetary policy in the country and its results.

Meanwhile, Mukhtarov's presentation on "Forecasting and
assessment of monetary conditions" highlighted the forecasting
methods applied at the CBA, the work done to increase analytical
depth, and the methods for assessing monetary conditions.

Issues related to the monetary policy framework of the CBA and
the future of the national currency have remained one of the main
areas on the institution's agenda in recent times.

Earlier, the Executive Director of the CBA, Rashad Mammadov,
told Trend that the bank's monetary policy builds on a
balanced and sustainable approach.

"International experience, in particular the approach of the
European Central Bank, shows that cash is an integral part of the
financial system and, although its role has been transformed, its
importance remains," Mammadov noted.

According to him, the CBA's main priorities in the cash sector
include updating national banknotes, maintaining access to cash,
optimizing money circulation, and strengthening the stability of
payment systems.

Mammadov also said that work is underway to develop a concept
for a new generation of national banknotes.

"The liberation of our lands from occupation and the restoration
of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan have
conditioned our country to enter a new political and economic level
in the region and the world. This, in turn, has brought to the
agenda the issue of adapting our national currency, which is one of
the main statehood attributes, to the new era and challenges," the
official noted.

He added that the CBA conducted a public survey in 2024 to
determine the concept theme of the new generation of national
currency and subthemes for denominations, and at the next stage,
it's planned to begin work on the creation of currency designs and
their security systems in the new concept.
