BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 13. The total value of
completed and ongoing investments by Turkish airport operator TAV
Airports in the development of Almaty International Airport has
reached 572 million euros, the company told Trend.
"Since assuming operations in 2021, TAV Airports has invested
substantially in the development of Almaty International Airport.
We completed the first investment programme, totaling 257 million
euros, including the new international terminal and VIP terminal,
in 2024. We are currently implementing the second-phase investment
programme for 2025-2027, with a total investment of EUR 315
million. Together, completed and ongoing investments amount to 572
million euros," the company said.
Commenting on the recent announcement that TAV Airports had
acquired the remaining 15% stake in Almaty International Airport,
the company said that consolidating 100% ownership strengthens the
operator's position in managing and further developing the
airport.
"The transaction reinforces our long-term commitment to Almaty
International Airport and simplifies the ownership structure by
bringing the airport under full ownership upon closing. This
reflects our confidence in the asset following the successful
development of the airport over the past several years, including
the opening of the new international terminal in 2024," the company
said.
TAV Airports also noted that Almaty International Airport
continues to demonstrate resilient operating performance.
"During the first six months of 2026, the airport served 5.76
million passengers, representing 2% year-on-year growth. While
domestic traffic was affected by the Pratt & Whitney engine issues
impacting airline operations, international passenger traffic
increased 9%, supported by continued strong demand for travel to
destinations such as China, Thailand and Vietnam. Commercial
aircraft movements also rose 5% compared to the same period of
2025.
For the remainder of the year, we expect the gradual increase in
passenger tariffs to largely offset the impact of lower jet fuel
sales volumes on revenues. In Almaty, we remain focused on
increasing aviation revenues, improving operational efficiency and
creating long-term value," TAV Airports said.
The company also stressed that Almaty International Airport
serves as an important gateway connecting Asia, Europe and the
Middle East.
"Located in Kazakhstan's economic centre, it plays a key role in
regional passenger and cargo connectivity and continues to benefit
from growing trade and transportation flows across Central Asia and
Eurasia. We believe these structural fundamentals support the
airport's long-term strategic importance within both the region and
TAV Airports' portfolio," the company said.
