BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 13. Uzbekistan and
major Chinese companies discussed prospects for launching joint
investment projects in mining, chemical production, agriculture and
food processing.
This was reflected in the statement by the Uzbek Ministry of
Investment, Industry and Trade following a meeting between Deputy
Minister Ilzat Kasimov and executives representing Sichuan Hebang
Investment Group, China Feihe Limited, YEMA Group, Zhejiang ZHINK
Group and Beijing Century Beking Furniture on August 12 in
Tashkent.
The Chinese companies operate across a range of industries,
including mining and chemicals, agriculture and livestock, dairy
and food production, PET materials, textiles and furniture
manufacturing.
During the meeting, the Uzbek side presented China’s business
community with information on Uzbekistan’s investment potential,
including opportunities available for foreign investors across
priority sectors.
The sides discussed potential joint projects covering the
development of mineral deposits, deep processing of mineral
resources and chemical production. The agenda also included plans
to establish facilities producing powdered milk and other dairy
products.
“Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint
work with relevant ministries and agencies to further develop
promising projects and advance them toward practical
implementation,” Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and
Trade said.
The discussions reflect Uzbekistan’s broader efforts to attract
Chinese investment into projects that go beyond the extraction of
raw materials and instead focus on deeper processing and
higher-value industrial production.
Expanding cooperation with Chinese companies across mining,
chemicals, agriculture and food processing could help Uzbekistan
diversify its industrial base while strengthening local production
capacity and creating new opportunities for technology transfer and
investment.
The sides agreed to maintain cooperation and work with relevant
government agencies to refine the proposed projects, assess their
implementation prospects, and move selected initiatives toward the
practical stage.
