BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. Uzbekistan and
Türkiye discussed ways to deepen parliamentary cooperation and
support the implementation of bilateral agreements as relations
between the two countries continue to develop under their
comprehensive strategic partnership.
This was relected in the statement by the Senate of Oliy Majlis
following a meeting of the Uzbekistan-Türkiye and
Türkiye-Uzbekistan interparliamentary cooperation groups.
The participants reviewed the current state and prospects of
multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Türkiye, with
particular attention given to the growing role of parliamentary
dialogue in bilateral relations.
The sides noted that cooperation between the two countries has
reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership,
supported by political will and mutual trust between their
leaders.
The officials also highlighted the increasing intensity of
parliamentary exchanges and reciprocal visits in recent years.
A key topic was the implementation of a 2026-2027 parliamentary
cooperation roadmap signed in April between Uzbekistan’s Oliy
Majlis and Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly.
The roadmap includes joint parliamentary events and visits,
exchanges of experience in lawmaking and parliamentary oversight,
as well as mutual support for initiatives within international
parliamentary organizations.
The sides also discussed strengthening trade, economic and
investment cooperation, including legislative support for
industrial cooperation projects. Transport and transit, education,
tourism, culture and humanitarian cooperation were also identified
as important areas for further engagement.
The participants emphasized the importance of expanding ties
between the regions of the two countries, saying stronger regional
cooperation could create additional opportunities for economic and
social partnerships.
“Parliamentary oversight of the agreements reached at the
highest level is essential to ensuring that bilateral cooperation
produces concrete results,” the Uzbek side said.
The parties agreed to strengthen parliamentary oversight over
the implementation of high-level agreements and organize a visit by
the leadership of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly to
Uzbekistan.
They also agreed to support the participation of young Turkish
parliamentarians in the 12th Global Conference of Young
Parliamentarians, which will be held in Samarkand.
The meeting underscores the growing role of parliamentary
diplomacy in supporting Uzbekistan-Türkiye relations and
translating high-level political agreements into practical
cooperation.
