Russia has described India as a key partner and reaffirmed its commitment to expanding bilateral ties, highlighting energy cooperation and the growing use of national currencies in trade.
In a statement marking India’s Independence Day, the Russian Foreign Ministry said there was “enormous potential” for further developing cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“Russian-Indian cooperation is multifaceted, and there is enormous potential for deepening it. Our countries are steadily switching to national currencies for mutual settlements — these now account for 96 per cent of commercial transactions. Our partnership in the energy sector is developing successfully. Russia is a reliable supplier of energy resources for the development of India’s energy sector,” the ministry said.
Moscow also highlighted the long-standing military-technical partnership between the two countries, saying Russia has assisted India for more than five decades in equipping and modernising its armed forces, including its air defence, air force and navy.
The ministry praised India’s achievements since independence, saying the country has made significant progress in economic, scientific, technological and social development while preserving its national identity.
“Today, India enjoys well-deserved prestige on the world stage, plays an important and constructive role in international affairs, and actively participates in addressing the most pressing issues on the global and regional agenda,” the statement said.
Russia described its relationship with India as a “particularly privileged strategic partnership,” saying bilateral ties remain focused on long-term cooperation and further development.
