BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. The European Para
Judo Championships have kicked off in the German city of
Heidelberg.
Azerbaijan's para judoka Ilham Zakiyev (J1, over 95 kg) won the
gold medal.
In the semifinals, Ilham Zakiyev defeated a British opponent to
advance to the final.
In the title bout, the Azerbaijani athlete defeated Spain's
Garros Suarez by ippon to once again claim the European
championship title.
With this victory, Ilham Zakiyev secured his 10th European
championship title of his career.
Earlier at the continental championships, Saleh Sultanov (J1, 81
kg) and Dursadaf Karimova (J2, over 70 kg) won bronze medals for
Azerbaijan.
