BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16. The damage caused
by oil pollution to the region's marine ecosystem could amount to
trillions of dollars.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei made the
statement in a post on X.
Baghaei shared a video showing oil pollution off the coast of
Qeshm Island and blamed a foreign vessel for the incident.
According to him, the incident is just one of many examples of
large-scale — both visible and hidden — pollution that has degraded
the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman over recent
decades, causing trillions of dollars in damage to Iran's coastal
areas.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also stressed that all
participants in commercial shipping should bear both legal and
moral responsibility for addressing the environmental damage caused
in the region.
