British-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been used by Ukraine to carry out strikes deep inside Russian territory for the first time, The Sunday Times reports, citing sources in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to the report, the drones, including the Nyan UAV manufactured by Wiltshire-based Callen-Lenz, were used in strikes on oil refineries in Volgograd and Yaroslavl.
Retired Air Marshal Greg Bagwell said the use of British drones against Russia could give Moscow grounds to regard factories in the United Kingdom producing such systems as “legitimate targets.”
At the same time, the newspaper’s sources described the prospect of a “direct military confrontation” between Russia and NATO as unlikely.
