BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 18. Uzbekistan and
Japan's JICA discussed expanding agricultural cooperation,
attracting new financing and introducing advanced technologies as
part of efforts to modernize Uzbekistan’s farming sector.
This was reflected in the statement by the Ministry of
Agriculture of Uzbekistan, following a meeting between Uzbekistan’s
Deputy Agriculture Minister Alisher Shukurov and representatives of
a mission from the Japan International Cooperation Agency
(JICA).
The sides reviewed prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation
in agriculture, launching new projects and identifying priority
areas for future engagement.
Particular attention was given to attracting new projects
financed through Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA)
loans. The participants exchanged views on agricultural
modernization, the introduction of advanced technologies and
strengthening investment cooperation.
The Uzbek side highlighted the country’s efforts to improve
agricultural productivity, use water resources more efficiently,
expand the adoption of modern agricultural technologies and
increase the competitiveness of agricultural products.
“Japan’s advanced experience is particularly important for
Uzbekistan as the country works to improve agricultural efficiency,
introduce modern technologies and strengthen the sector’s
competitiveness,” the Uzbek side said.
The discussions also focused on opportunities for JICA-supported
initiatives to contribute to the modernization of agricultural
infrastructure and promote more efficient production practices.
The cooperation comes as Uzbekistan seeks to attract
international financing and technology to address key challenges
facing its agricultural sector, including resource efficiency and
the need to modernize production.
Japanese expertise and financing could provide additional
support for projects aimed at improving agricultural productivity
and strengthening the sector’s technological base.
Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their readiness to
continue developing mutually beneficial cooperation and jointly
implement promising projects in Uzbekistan’s agricultural
sector.
