BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 18. Kazakhstan has
adopted a technical regulation for main pipelines designed to
transport liquefied ethane and propane fractions, the press service
of the country's Ministry of Trade and Integration said.
The national technical regulation titled "Requirements for Main
Pipelines for the Transportation of Liquefied Ethane and Propane
Fractions" was approved by an order of Kazakhstan's Minister of
Energy dated July 29, 2026.
"The technical regulation establishes mandatory requirements for
main pipelines transporting liquefied ethane and propane fractions
with a vapor pressure exceeding 0.2 MPa at a temperature of 20°C,
covering their design, including engineering surveys, construction
and reconstruction, operation, conservation and decommissioning, as
well as rules for assessing their conformity," the ministry
said.
The regulation was developed by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy
as part of the project to construct main ethane and propane
pipelines within a common corridor in the Atyrau region.
The project is aimed at transporting liquefied ethane and
propane fractions from facilities operated by Tengizchevroil LLP
and the gas separation complex under construction at the Tengiz
field to gas chemical plants in the NIPT Special Economic Zone in
Karabatan.
According to the ministry, the adoption of the technical
regulation provides the regulatory framework for implementing the
project and establishing mandatory requirements for the relevant
main pipeline infrastructure.
