Azerbaijan is implementing several major projects aimed at
maintaining oil production and increasing output over the longer
term. BP, the operator of the country’s main oil fields, is
implementing new investment programs to improve production
efficiency.
Garry Johns, BP’s regional president for Azerbaijan, Georgia and
Türkiye, said the company continues to expand its activities at the
Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field.
He said new wells are being drilled at ACG, existing
infrastructure is being upgraded and new technologies are being
introduced to support long-term production.
“We continue to invest in ensuring long-term production at ACG.
Drilling new wells, maintaining the reliability of platforms and
introducing technological innovations are key elements of this
strategy,” the BP executive said.
The company is also continuing appraisal work at the
Shafag-Asiman prospective structure and development of the Karabakh
field. In addition, BP is expanding efforts to study new geological
structures in the Caspian Sea and identify additional hydrocarbon
resources.
BP said the new projects are intended not only to offset the
natural decline in existing production but also to preserve
Azerbaijan’s energy export potential over the long term. The
company’s investment programs are also aimed at supporting the
sustainable development of Azerbaijan’s oil and gas sector and
strengthening energy security.
