Artificial Intelligence and unmanned aerial vehicles could revolutionise mine clearance, says Regional Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Tim Lardner.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 4th International Mine Action Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, he made clear that modern advanced technologies can fundamentally transform the field of mine clearance, and Azerbaijan possesses significant capabilities for implementing such solutions, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
In his words, the application of modern technologies will accelerate mine clearance operations, enhance efficiency, and improve work quality.
"I think artificial intelligence will bring about a real revolution in the field of mine clearance. Over the past two years in particular, we have seen how much technology has expanded our capabilities to detect and neutralize mines," Lardner stressed.
He added that humanity is only at the beginning of its journey regarding the deployment of artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies in mine action.
Lardner further stated that technological solutions also contribute to enhancing deminer safety and boosting the efficiency of ongoing operations.
He predicts that the use of artificial intelligence, unmanned aerial vehicles, and other cutting-edge technologies in mine action will rapidly expand in the coming years.
