A US supersonic aircraft is circling over the neutral waters of the Gulf of Oman near the boundary of Iranian-controlled airspace, a source in Middle Eastern air traffic control services told TASS.


The aircraft is a Northrop T-38C Talon operated by the US Air Force.


“The aircraft took off from one of the military bases in the region and is currently flying in a circular pattern at an altitude of about 7.5 km over the neutral waters of the Gulf of Oman,” the source said.


The source noted that the aircraft, which is designed to train jet pilots, is circling near the boundary of the airspace controlled by Iranian air traffic controllers.

According to the source, a US Boeing KC-46A Pegasus aerial refuelling/transport aircraft is currently flying along the same trajectory as the Northrop T-38C Talon, approximately three kilometres below it.
