Air Tanzania (ATCL) has suspended flights to Russia indefinitely over safety concerns, effective today, according to a statement issued by the airline.
The decision follows a routine assessment of risks associated with operating the route, Caliber.Az reports, citing Tanzanian media.
“Safety considerations always take precedence over commercial ones,” the airline noted.
Air Tanzania launched direct flights between Moscow and Dar es Salaam in July 2026. The airline was expected to operate flights on the Dar es Salaam–Moscow–Zanzibar route three times a week.
Earlier, Kyiv called on the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to ban civilian aircraft from flying over Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned foreign airlines about the dangers of flying to Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Following the warning, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) said it had not received notifications from foreign airlines about mass cancellations or changes to flights to Russia.
The agency separately clarified the case of Türkiye’s Pegasus Airlines, adding that some charter flights had been cancelled for technical reasons, after which the carrier requested additional flights that Rosaviatsiya approved.
“We continue to monitor conditions in consultation with the relevant authorities and will announce the resumption of services as soon as the assessment supports it,” ATCL explained.
