The European Union and Azerbaijan have tentatively agreed on the Partnership Priorities document, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Marijana Kujundžić has said, describing the latest development as a new stage in relations.
Speaking at a roundtable in Baku, Azerbaijan, organised by the Centre for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism and the LINKS Europe Foundation, she noted that relations with Azerbaijan "have intensified at a high level", Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
In her words, negotiations on a new bilateral agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU began this year and are expected to resume at the end of September.
"We also discussed the Partnership Priorities, and the text of the document has been tentatively agreed upon," she underscored.
She stated that the two documents would provide a modern and ambitious framework for cooperation in areas including clean energy and trade.
According to Kujundzic, 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of relations between Azerbaijan and the EU, and Azerbaijan has become an important and reliable energy partner for the EU, while the bloc remains Azerbaijan’s largest trading partner.
The ambassador also highlighted the growing number of high-level contacts between the sides.
She stressed that during the first 10 months of her tenure in Azerbaijan, the country hosted three European Commissioners, European Council President Antonio Costa, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and, on July 1, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
"This shows how dynamic our relations are becoming," she added.
