BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 7. Uzbekistan is
exploring deeper economic cooperation with the U.S. city of SeaTac,
Washington, including plans to establish the country's first Trade
House in the city.
The initiative was announced in a statement by the Consul
General of Uzbekistan in the State of Washington, Akhror Burkhanov,
following a meeting with Jonathan Young, city manager of SeaTac,
during a visit to the Greater Seattle area.
According to Burkhanov, the discussions focused on strengthening
ties between Uzbekistan and SeaTac, with particular attention to
trade, investment, and business cooperation. A key topic was the
potential opening of Uzbekistan's first Trade House in SeaTac, a
move aimed at increasing the visibility of Uzbek products in the
U.S. market while creating new opportunities for exporters,
investors, and business communities from both sides.
"We also discussed the prospect of opening Uzbekistan's first
Trade House in SeaTac, an important step toward promoting Uzbek
products and creating new opportunities for trade, investment, and
business partnerships," Burkhanov said in a social media post.
If realized, the project would represent another step in
Uzbekistan's broader strategy of diversifying export markets and
strengthening economic diplomacy. Trade houses have become an
increasingly important tool for countries seeking to promote
national products abroad, providing a platform for businesses to
showcase goods, connect with potential buyers, and facilitate
commercial partnerships.
The choice of SeaTac is strategically significant. Located
within the Seattle metropolitan area, the city serves as a major
transportation and logistics hub due to its proximity to
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and the Port of Seattle.
Establishing a trade hub there could improve access for Uzbek
exporters to the U.S. West Coast, one of the country's largest
consumer markets and an important gateway to the Asia-Pacific
region.
Burkhanov described the talks as productive and expressed
optimism about future cooperation.
"Excited to be here and look forward to strengthening
Uzbekistan's ties with the City of SeaTac, the Greater Seattle
area, and beyond," he said, adding that he was grateful for the
warm welcome and looked forward to working together.
The discussions underscore Uzbekistan's continued focus on
expanding its international trade network and creating new channels
for investment and commercial engagement in the United States.
