BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21.
The European Commission is working to attract private investment
from European companies into strategic sectors of Azerbaijan’s
economy, including renewable energy, Head of the European Union
(EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan, Marijana Kujundzic, said during the
EU-Azerbaijan Business Forum 2026 in Baku on Wednesday, Trend’s correspondent
reports from the event.
According to her, the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, in
coordination with colleagues from the European Commission in
Brussels, is working to facilitate European private investment in
the country.
"Predictable investment conditions and a level playing field are
of particular importance to European companies interested in
investing in Azerbaijan. Earlier in October, the European
Commission organized a roundtable in Brussels on business in the
'clean' energy sector, involving European business associations.
The EU and Azerbaijan have officially resumed negotiations on a
new, comprehensive agreement intended to replace the existing 1999
Partnership and Cooperation Agreement," she said.
According to her, two rounds of negotiations have already taken
place, in Brussels and Baku, and the process is ongoing.
The delegation’s head emphasized that the EU remains
Azerbaijan’s largest trading partner, with the energy sector
continuing to play a central role in bilateral cooperation.
Azerbaijan is a key supplier of energy resources to the EU, notably
through the Southern Gas Corridor.
"At the same time, cooperation is expanding into areas such as
renewable energy, wind power, and the 'green' transition," she
added.
The EU-Azerbaijan Business Forum, marking the 30th anniversary
of the partnership between the European Union and Azerbaijan and
the 10th anniversary of the forum, is being held in Baku today.
This year’s forum is held under the theme “Connecting Corridors:
Connectivity and Infrastructure.” The main focus is on developing
transport connectivity and infrastructure, strengthening economic
cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan, and expanding regional
trade and investment.
The program includes high-level discussions, thematic sessions,
and business meetings involving representatives of the public and
private sectors.
