ASTANA, Kazakhstan,
August 23. Voter turnout at Kazakhstan’s elections
to the Kurultai, the country’s new unicameral parliament, reached
17.96% as of 10:00 local time, Trend’s correspondent reports from Astana.
According to data published by the Central Election Commission
of Kazakhstan, 2,264,411 voters had received ballots by 10:00, out
of the total number of voters registered.
The highest turnout was recorded in Kyzylorda Region at 22.91%,
followed by Karaganda Region at 21.06% and Zhetisu Region at
20.87%.
Turnout in other regions stood at 20.39% in Turkistan Region,
20.28% in Aktobe Region, 19.93% in East Kazakhstan Region, 19.41%
in Ulytau Region, 18.91% in Akmola Region, 18.75% in Atyrau Region,
18.25% in Zhambyl Region, 17.97% in West Kazakhstan Region, 17.92%
in Kostanay Region, 17.52% in North Kazakhstan Region, 17.35% in
Abai Region, 17.19% in Almaty Region, 17.01% in Astana and 16.92%
in Mangystau Region.
Pavlodar Region recorded a turnout of 15.98%, while turnout in
Almaty stood at 9.96%.
The next voter turnout figures will be released at 12:00.
The elections to the Kurultai, Kazakhstan’s new unicameral
parliament established under the new Constitution that entered into
force on July 1, 2026, began today.
The Kurultai will comprise 145 deputies elected for a five-year
term. The elections are being held under a proportional
representation system, with deputies elected from party lists in a
single nationwide constituency.
