ASTANA, Kazakhstan,
August 23. The name of the person who will take
the post of Vice President of Kazakhstan will be announced within
the next week or 10 days.

According to the presidential press service, President of
Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made the remarks during a briefing
for media representatives.

“Everyone is asking about the position of Vice President.
Indeed, this is a significant change. We deliberately established
this new position in the Constitution. I would not be mistaken in
saying that it is extremely necessary. In the current challenging
times, such a position is particularly needed by our country. Who
will take the post of Vice President will become known within the
next week or 10 days. It would be premature to name the person now.
I think it will be a well-known person whom you all know well,”
Tokayev said.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan would implement other reforms as
well.

“For example, it is necessary to launch the work of a new state
body — the Kazakhstan Halyk Kenesi. As far as I know, some citizens
compare it with the Assembly. I believe the Kazakhstan Halyk Kenesi
will strengthen and develop the work previously carried out by the
Assembly. It can be described as a new multifunctional political
mechanism. I am confident that the work of the Kazakhstan Halyk
Kenesi will be productive,” he said.

According to the President, plans for the country's further
development are ambitious.

“As I have said before, Kazakhstan should turn into a major
construction site. Large-scale construction projects will be
implemented in every regional center, district and city.
Polyclinics, children's rehabilitation centers and other social
facilities will be built. In Astana, important facilities such as a
new bridge, the Dombra Palace and the Water Resources Research
Center will appear. It is necessary to improve cities. We should
consistently continue the Taza Kazakhstan campaign,” Tokayev
said.

He stressed the need for active efforts to further develop the
country.

“We all need to get to work together, as one nation. We have no
other homeland but Kazakhstan, and each of us must contribute to
its development. Overall, the electoral campaign went well. New
figures have entered the socio-political arena, while substantive
and constructive ideas were put forward. I think this Kurultai will
give new impetus to the development of our country,” Tokayev
said.
