ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 23. The
establishment of a new parliament in accordance with Kazakhstan’s
new Constitution is an indicator and testament to the country’s
continued development, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization
of Turkic States (OTS) Nuru Guliyev said at a briefing, Trend’s special correspondent
reports from Astana.

“After visiting polling stations, we saw that the information we
received from the Central Election Commission fully corresponds to
what is happening on the ground. We observe that the elections are
being held in accordance with the law and established rules, while
the process itself is democratic and transparent,” he said.

Guliyev noted that the OTS delegation paid attention to several
important aspects.

“First of all, this concerns the ability of people with
disabilities to access polling stations without obstacles. At all
the polling stations we visited, the necessary conditions and
appropriate technical facilities have been provided. All the
necessary equipment is available, and access to the polling
stations for such citizens is organized quite conveniently.

“Necessary conditions have also been created for people with
visual impairments,” he said.

Guliyev added that conditions at all the polling stations
observed were in line with legal requirements.

“All this was very encouraging for us. It is particularly
positive to see that, within the framework of the new Constitution,
Kazakhstan has provided for such a large number of different
mechanisms during the elections and taken so many details into
account.

“According to the information we received, commissions were
established in a number of regions to travel directly to voters.
This concerns, for example, people who work far from home and
cannot return home for several months. Commissions visited them to
ensure they had the opportunity to vote. In particular, such
arrangements were made for coal mine workers.

“We also observed a number of similar cases. All of this
demonstrates the serious development of the electoral system in the
country. We believe that the establishment of a new parliament in
accordance with the new Constitution is an indicator and testament
to Kazakhstan’s continued development,” he said.
