Russia’s Transport Ministry is coordinating with China on a bilateral agreement that would allow individuals to cross the border in private passenger cars, Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin told TASS on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.
“The Transport Ministry is coordinating a draft bilateral agreement on individuals crossing the border in private passenger cars with up to eight seats through key checkpoints,” he noted.
According to him, the agreement would cover the Zabaikalsk, Starotsurukhaitui, Pogranichny, Kraskino and Kani-Kurgan checkpoints. “There are no technical problems with the crossings; they are ready,” the minister added.
Nikitin said the two sides are currently discussing the validity period of driving licenses. In particular, they need to determine how long Russian drivers will be allowed to drive in China and Chinese drivers in Russia.
