BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 7. Road rehabilitation
works on the Arashan–Chunkurchak road, one of the main tourist
routes in Kyrgyzstan's Chuy region, are progressing steadily.
The information was announced by Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of
Transport and Communications.
"The first seven-centimeter layer of asphalt has been fully laid
on the Arashan–Chunkurchak road," the statement said.
According to the ministry, the 20.7-kilometer road provides
access to popular ski resorts and recreation areas. Under the
project, a second five-centimeter asphalt layer will be laid over
the completed first layer.
The ministry noted that installation of retaining walls and
drainage culverts has been fully completed. In addition, around 60
percent of the roadside guardrails have been installed, nearly 80
percent of road signs have been erected, and construction of two
bridges has been completed.
Upon completion of the project, access to tourist destinations
is expected to improve, while road safety and transport conditions
along the route will be significantly enhanced.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications added that the
project remains under its continuous supervision.
According to Trend's analysis, the modernization of the
Arashan–Chunkurchak road reflects Kyrgyzstan's broader efforts to
improve transport infrastructure serving key tourism destinations.
Upgrading one of the Chuy region's main tourist routes is expected
to make travel more comfortable and reliable throughout the year,
while supporting growing visitor flows to the area's ski resorts
and recreation facilities.
The project combines road resurfacing with the construction of
supporting infrastructure, including bridges, retaining walls,
drainage systems, guardrails, and road signs. This integrated
approach is expected to improve traffic safety, increase the
durability of the road, and reduce maintenance requirements over
the long term.
Looking ahead, better transport access to the
Arashan–Chunkurchak corridor could strengthen the tourism sector by
improving connectivity between Bishkek and nearby mountain resorts.
Continued investment in transport infrastructure is also likely to
enhance the region's attractiveness for private investment and
support local economic development.
