German authorities have discovered nine more homemade explosive devices near power lines in the Görlitz area of eastern Germany, bringing the total number of devices found near energy infrastructure to 21.
The discoveries were made during searches conducted from September 4 to September 6, according to the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office and Saxony’s State Criminal Police, Tagesschau reports.
Investigators believe the devices were manufactured with the aim of damaging energy infrastructure by causing short circuits near a substation and high-voltage power lines.
Similar incidents have previously been recorded in the German states of Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia.
