A state of emergency has been declared in Troy, Missouri, US, as emergency crews responded to an anhydrous ammonia leak at a facility near Highway J and Bobeen Lane.
Residents of the Meadowridge subdivision and the Legends subdivision on the city's west end, including Sleepy Hollow, Hamlet and Treasure Island Drive, were asked to evacuate, according to the city, First Alert 4 reports.
Emergency crews later controlled the leak and completed the evacuations. One worker at the facility was taken to the hospital.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office urged people to stay away from the area to allow emergency responders to work safely.
Schools in Troy remained in session, but all schools within city limits were required to keep students indoors throughout the day.
The Lincoln County R-III School District said some bus routes could be affected and that it was communicating directly with those routes.
