A partial evacuation has been ordered in the northern German city of Kiel following the discovery of a World War II-era bomb, German broadcaster NDR reports.

According to the outlet, the munition was found on Insterburg Street. It is a 250-kilogram US bomb dating back to World War II.

The bomb disposal operation will be carried out in the Dietrichsdorf district.

“Some 5,200 residents from approximately 2,580 homes must be evacuated for this purpose,” the city authorities said.

Residents must leave the potentially dangerous area by 2 p.m. local time, the report added.
