The United Kingdom held joint military exercises with the United States and Norway on Jan Mayen, an Arctic island, the UK Ministry of Defence said.
“UK Armed Forces have deployed to the remote Arctic island of Jan Mayen alongside Norwegian and US allies,” the ministry noted.
The exercises were conducted as part of the “Arctic Sentry” program, while the operation on the island was dubbed “Atlantic City,” according to the ministry. The drills tested NATO forces’ ability to operate in Arctic conditions.
During the exercises, the naval and air forces, as well as special forces and marine units from the three countries, used various sensor and communications systems to coordinate their operations in the Arctic.
